Warranty Registration > TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF WARRANTY
   
1.

If you complete the registration of this warranty online at www.canon.com.hk within 14 days from the date of purchase of the product, then the warranty set out in these terms and conditions will apply.

   
2. When you purchase your Canon product, you will receive an international warranty card if your Canon product is a Canon film single lens reflex camera, a Canon lens or Canon speedlite other than those listed in Clause 17.1, and a purchase record card for any other Canon product. This warranty only applies to the product with the model number and serial number written on, as the case may be, the purchase record card or the international warranty card (the "Product").
   
3. Subject to Clause 1, the purchase record card or international warranty card (as the case may be) and your original invoice entitles you to warranty service set out in Clause 5 for the period from the date of purchase set out in Clause 17 (the "Warranty Period"), provided that the purchase record card or international warranty card (as the case may be) is stamped by an authorized dealer of Canon and dated with the date of purchase.
   
4. The purchase record card or international warranty card (as the case may be) and the original invoice for the Product must be presented when making any claim under this warranty.
   
5.

During the Warranty Period and provided that the Product was used under normal conditions, you will be entitled to free repair service of the Product and free replacement of parts arising from defects in the materials and workmanship of the Product (fair wear and tear excepted), excluding (without limitation) repair and/or replacement and/or cleaning of the following:-

  i) consumables such as ink cartridges, print head cartridges, toner cartridges, drum cartridges and lamps (except that project lamps will enjoy a 90 days warranty from the date of purchase);
  ii) connection cables, battery, charger, remote controller, external casing, print head, ink cartridge, projector lamp, memory card, accessories, consumables and film (Canon reserves the right to amend the list of consumables, optional units and accessories without prior notice);
  iii) damage resulting from the use of non-genuine Canon consumables or refill substances, inappropriate voltage, the failure to follow operating instructions, accident or other events (such as riots, strikes, fire, flooding and other acts of God) beyond Canon's control;
  iv) software, firmware, driver compact disc, manuals and the related installation;
  v) dead pixels on display panels that exceed Canon specifications; and
  vi) product and image sensor cleaning.
   
6. This warranty shall be automatically cancelled if the Product or any part(s) thereof are modified, tampered with, altered, converted or repaired in anyway by anybody other than Canon staff or authorized service providers of Canon.
   
7. All components, parts or other units that are removed from the Product in the course of repair or replacement shall be the property of Canon.
   
8. Canon shall not be responsible for any breakdown of the Product caused by any non-Canon hardware or software related problems after its first installation or due acceptance of the Product, or any damage or malfunction to any products which are connected to the Product.
   
9. Canon is not obliged to maintain or repair any part(s) of the Product if:-
  9.1) the damage is caused by your negligence and misuse of the Product or incurred during transportation of the Product not carried out by Canon; or
  9.2) the Product is not supplied by Canon or its authorized dealers.
   
10. Liability
  10.1) Notwithstanding anything herein contained, Canon shall not be liable to the user or any third party whatsoever for any damage, loss, liability (save and except for any personal injuries or death) or failure to provide maintenance services under this warranty in respect of any act, omission or negligence of any technician, employee or independent contractor of Canon relating to the performance or purported performance of any obligations under this warranty.
  10.2) You shall bear the risk and be responsible for all damage, injury or loss (including consequential loss, loss of profit, injury or damage) arising directly or indirectly out of or in connection with the service, delivery, or use of the Product.
  10.3) The maximum liability of Canon under this warranty shall be restricted to the replacement value of the Product.
   
11. This warranty shall not extend to anyone other than the original purchaser of the Product. Canon shall be entitled to transfer or assign all its rights and obligations under the warranty to any company in Hong Kong which is associated with Canon.
   
12. Unless the warranty services for the Product include on-site repair under Clause 17, the warranty services under this warranty will only be performed if you deliver the Product to our designated service centers.
   
13. Canon shall not be responsible or liable for any insurance coverage in relation to the Product.

The warranty expressly provided herein is the sole warranty provided in connection with the Product, and no other warranty, expressed or implied, is provided.
   
15. The terms and conditions of the warranty for Products purchased in Hong Kong SAR ("Hong Kong") are renewable upon expiration subject to payment of a fee determined by Canon. The terms and conditions of any Canon warranty are subject to change by Canon without prior notice.
   
16. Canon reserves the right to terminate the warranty in the event of any uncertainty or doubt as to the applicability of these terms and conditions.
   
17. Provisions for Specific Products
  17.1) If the Product is a Canon EOS 40D / EOS 30D / EOS 20D / EOS 450D / EOS 400D / EOS 350D / EOS 1000D digital single lens reflex camera, then:
(a) this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau SAR ("Macau"), in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 2 years from the date of purchase of the Product if the warranty service is sought in Hong Kong or Macau and 1 year from the date of purchase of the Product if the warranty service is sought in Mainland China*; and
(b) if the Product is located in Mainland China, then the Canon 2-year Supreme Protection Plan (the "Supreme Protection Plan") shall not apply, and this warranty shall be the only warranty granted by Canon in respect of the Product.
  17.2) If the Product is a Canon HV20 / HV10 / DC51 / DC40 / DC22 / DC20 / DC10 / DC310 / DC230 / DC220 / DC210 / DC100 / MVX4i / MVX1Si / MVX40i / MVX35i / MVX25i / MVX20i / MVX330i / MVX250i / MVX200i / MD120 / MV940 / MV920 / MV830i / MV800i / HR10 / HG10 / HF10 / HF100 / FS11 / FS100 digital video camcorder, then the provisions of Clause 17.1 shall apply and in addition, if the Product is located outside Hong Kong, Macau or Mainland China in a territory in which Canon agrees to provide warranty services for that Product, you may elect to transfer this warranty for the Canon warranty provided in that territory, in which case:
(a) the applicable Warranty Period is 6 months from the date of purchase of the Product; and
(b) you must return your purchase record card to Canon for exchange whereupon Canon will notify you of the warranty provisions that apply in that territory.
  17.3) If the Product is a Canon film single lens reflex camera, a Canon lens or Canon speedlite other than those listed in Clause 17.1, or a Canon portable bubble jet printer, then this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau, in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 1 year from the date of purchase of the Product and the warranty services may be sought in Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China*, and in any territory in which Canon agrees to provide warranty services for that Product.
  17.4) If the Product is a Canon digital single lens reflex camera other than those listed in Clause 17.1 or a Canon compact photo printer (only for dye-sublimation base), then this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau, in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 1 year from the date of purchase of the Product and the warranty services may be sought in Hong Kong, Macau or Mainland China.
  17.5) If the Product is a Canon digital compact camera, or Canon digital video camcorder that is not listed in Clause 17.2, then this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau, in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 1 year from the date of purchase of the Product and the warranty services may be sought in Hong Kong, Macau or Mainland China*, and in addition, if the Product is located outside Hong Kong, Macau or Mainland China in a territory in which Canon agrees to provide warranty services for that Product, you may elect to transfer this warranty for the Canon warranty provided in that territory, in which case:
(a) the applicable Warranty Period is 6 months from the date of purchase of the Product; and
(b) you must return your purchase record card to Canon for exchange whereupon Canon will notify you of the warranty provisions that apply in that territory.
  17.6) If the Product is a Canon binocular, Canon scanner, Canon bubble jet printer (not being a portable printer), Canon multi-function printer, Canon laser beam printer, Canon web camera, Canon visualiser, Canon personal copier, Canon laser facsimile, or a Canon document scanner or Canon large format printer, then this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau, in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 1 year from the date of purchase of the Product and the warranty services may only be sought in Hong Kong or Macau.
  17.7) If the Product is a Canon projector, then this warranty will only be valid if the Product was purchased in Hong Kong or Macau, in which case the applicable Warranty Period is 2 years from the date of purchase of the Product and the warranty services may only be sought in Hong Kong or Macau.
  17.8) If the Product is a Canon projector, Canon bubble jet printer (not being a portable printer), Canon multi-function printer, Canon laser beam printer, Canon laser facsimile, or a Canon document scanner or Canon large format printer, then you may request Canon to provide the warranty services at the address you have notified Canon that the Product is located. Service hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday (except Public Holidays). The warranty services do not include any removal services, and warranty services will only be provided if the Product is in a safe and easily accessible location. Without prejudice to the foregoing, Canon reserves the right to charge such fee as it considers reasonable or appropriate for the provision of warranty services:
(a) at your notified address if Canon considers that your notified address is in a remote area or an outlying island in Hong Kong; or
(b) if the Product is located in an unsafe or hazardous location or is not easily accessible by Canon representatives without the use of tools or equipment.
 
   
18. This warranty shall be construed and governed by the laws of Hong Kong.

Appendix to the Warranty
 

Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance

The information which you have provided to us will be used by Canon in providing services to you in relation to the Warranty, and will at all times be governed by the terms of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance ("the Ordinance"). Please note the following:-

1. The personal data supplied by you will be used for the purpose of
  (i) maintaining our records relating to you and your products, in order that we may provide maintenance, guarantee and other services to you;
  (ii) sending you information relevant to your products and advertising and promotional materials;
  (iii) determining the amounts outstanding from you; and/or
  (iv) any purposes relating thereto.
     
2. Data held by us relating to you will be kept confidential, but we may from time to time provide such information to
  (i) any governmental or statutory authorities,
  (ii) our parent company or any other company forming part of the Canon group, and/or
  (iii) any other person under a duty of confidentiality to us.
 
3. Under and in accordance with the terms of the Ordinance, you have the right to
  (i) check whether we hold data about you and your right of access to such data;
  (ii) require us to correct any data relating to you which is inaccurate;
  (iii) ascertain our policies and practices in relation to data and to be informed of the kind of personal data held by us. In accordance with the terms of the Ordinance, we have a right to charge a reasonable fee for the processing of any data access request. If you have any requests for access to data or for the correction of data, or if you would like any further information regarding our policies and practices or the kinds of data held by us, kindly address your enquiries to:-

4. Nothing in this Clause shall limit the rights of any person under the Ordinance.
