EOS M digital camera features various shooting modes that unlocks new and more enjoyable shooting experience for users. Acquiring the proper skills and knowledge is essential to taking great photos. This course is tailored for new EOS M camera owners, and provides an all-rounded learning experience with both theory and practical training.

The course consists of three sessions, which equip you with the knowledge on basic photography theory and camera operation with include shooting modes, exposure and its relationships to aperture, shutter speed and ISO and so on. Model will be provided in the outdoor practical session, and EF, EF-M lenses and EOS System accessories are available for loan, giving you the opportunity to experience the performance and usage of different Canon products. You will be comfortable handling your camera, familiarize photography techniques in different situations under the guidance of our experienced instructor. You will also learn to work on your photos with Canon Imaging software, apply basic adjustments and corrections in the third lesson.

By the end of this foundation course, you will be able to print out your great shot in A4 size for free!

Course Outline

Suitable to:

  • New EOS M camera owner and photography beginner
  • Ownership of EOS M camera and completed online product warranty registration
  • Participant should bring his own camera and memory card to the lesson
  • Participant should be 18 years old or above

Course Outline:

Part 1 - Basic Photography Theory and Camera Operation (3 hours)

  • Introduction to photography and exposure (aperture, shutter speed, ISO and depth of field, etc)
  • Basic camera operation of EOS M Digital Camera
  • Understanding shooting modes(specific scenes, creative assist mode, etc)
  • Understanding lens perspective and compression
  • Focusing
  • Basic fundamentals of metering
  • Histogram reading
  • Understanding white balance and color temperature
  • Differences between RAW and JPEG photo formats
  • Basics of composition and framing


Part II - Outdoor Practice (3 hours, model will be provided)
Practical location: Kowloon Walled City Park / Back-up practical location: Kwun Tong Promenade

  • Revisit lesson 1 key topics in daytime outdoor environment
  • Av (Aperture Priority) & Tv (Shutter Priority) mode application
  • Exposure compensation
  • Learning to exploit good light and choosing viewpoints
  • Portrait photography demonstration & practice
  • Introduction to basic flash photography
  • Comparison of built-in & add-on flash


Part III - Imaging Software Application (2 hours)

  • Introduction to digital image management by Digital Photo Professional (demonstration of basic photo correction with DPP)
  • Introduction to EOS Utility (demonstration of configuring camera functions, settings and importing picture style)
  • Wi-Fi/NFC connect application
  • Camera Connect application (image browsing)
  • Equipment storage advice & daily maintenance

Terms and Conditions

  1. Participant should bring his own cameras and memory card (if applicable) to the classes.
  2. The transfer of classes will not be accepted within 7 days prior to the commencement of the course. Participant is not permitted to transfer into a different course and transfer will be subject to availability. Any participant who cannot attend the lesson is considered as waiving his own attendance. Please note, no refund will be provided to absentee after confirmation has been made.
  3. No refund will be made once payment is received.
  4. For the following extreme weather conditions, classes will be cancelled and participants will be notified of the alternative arrangements.
    • During Class
      Typhoon Signal No.8 or above is Valid - Class Cancelled
      Rainstorm Black/Red Warning is Valid - Resume Normal
    • On the Day of Class - 12:00nn
      Typhoon Signal No.8 or above is Valid - Class Cancelled
      Typhoon Signal No.8 or above is Lowered - Resume Normal
      Rainstorm Black warning is Valid - Class Cancelled
      Rainstorm Black Warning is Lowered - Resume Normal
  5. Should the weather be unstable on the day of the course, Canon Institute of Creative Imaging may have special arrangement according to the enironment and weather of the day of the course. If the class is cancelled due to unstable weather, Canon Institute of Creative Imaging will notify the participants accordingly for the make up class arrangements. Any student who cannot attend the make up lesson is considered as waiving his own attendance.
  6. Regarding the practical location arrangement of 2nd session outdoor pracitce, Canon Institute of Creative Imaging will decide the final location base on the weather of the day of the lesson. Practical location will change from "Kowloon Walled City Park" to "Kwun Tong Promenade" if the weather is unstable, Canon Institute of Creative Imaging will notify the participants by the morning of the day of the lesson.
  7. Canon reserves the right to cancel classes due to extreme weather conditions, special circumstances and insufficient enrollments. If so, participants will be notified of the alternative arrangements.
  8. If participants are found vandalizing school property or that of other students, behaving destructively or hinder the progress of the lesson then Canon will have the right to invalidate participant's status.
  9. Canon reserves the right to make any alterations to the course details when necessary without prior notice.
