We have issued a product advisory for the Canon FC-3, FC-5, FC-3 II and FC-5 II compact personal copiers in Japan, manufactured and marketed between 1986 and 1999.Over time, aging and other factors can affect one of the electronic components on the surface of the circuit board inside of these products which, while the risk is quite remote, could result in smoke emission or fire on that portion of the circuit board. Although it has been confirmed that fire will not spread beyond the corresponding location on the circuit board, Canon is taking measures to ensure that all affected customers can continue using these products with confidence.

Canon will offer customers free inspections for the models in question and will provide, at no cost to customers, select parts replacements and necessary actions to ensure a proper connection should the machines require servicing in the future.
