2015-AUG-24
Hong Kong Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycling Association Organized the 10th Anniversary Ceremony cum Recycling Result Announcement

Hong Kong Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Recycling Association (HKWRA) has been managing three Waste Reduction Programmes, namely Computer Recycling Programme (CRP), Fluorescent Lamp Recycling Programme (FLRP) and Rechargeable Battery Recycling Programme (RBRP), with the support from Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the overall programme, HKWRA proudly announced the fruitful achievements in computer recycling over the years at the “10th Anniversary Ceremony cum Recycling Result Announcement” on 24th August 2015, at the Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival 2015, taking place in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Wanchai. A co-located and dedicated “Computer Recycling Station” was also set up to encourage computer recycling.

The huge CRP recycling network currently covers over 1,100 collection points in residential, industrial and commercial areas. Together with other channels, the programme has already collected over 160,000 pieces of computer products since its debut. Meanwhile, at the “Computer Recycling Station” in the 4-day Hong Kong Computer & Communications Festival 2015, HKWRA has collected a total of 511 old computer products, in which 66% of them are laptop computers, followed by desktop computers and monitors.

Looking forward, HKWRA will organize more public activities to encourage computer and electronic products recycling. Meanwhile, the association has just started the recycling of smart devices (e.g. mobile phones and tablets etc), and will meanwhile look into the possibility of LED lamp and primary battery recycling in order to meet the new trend of consumers’ behaviors in recent years.

Canon Hongkong has been a member of RBRP and CRP since 2005 and 2008 respectively. In year 2014/15, Mr. Johnny Yeung, Manager of CII Technical Service Division of Canon Hongkong is honored to be nominated as the president of HKWRA, and leads the association to further promote the various recycling programmes.
