Canon Hongkong supported St. James’ Settlement “Step Out Blue House” Charitable City Orienteering Competition for Heritage Conservation 2015
 
Local cultural/heritage conservation is becoming one of the biggest concerns by Hong Kong people in recent years. On the 20th of September, St. James’ Settlement (SJS) organized “Step Out Blue House”, the first fundraising event in the form of city orienteering with taste of cultural heritages & old Hong Kong style. Participants were completed in team of 2-4 people and kick started at the Blue House in Wan Chai. Within 3 hours limitation, team had to accomplish the challenge by travelling at least 9 checkpoints out of 18 locations across Wan Chai, Causeway Bay & Happy Valley to explore the hidden mystery & folks in these districts.
 
The event received overwhelming response even it was the first time to be held. Over 100 teams had been enrolled to the competition. A total of HK$200,000 has been raised. All proceeds after deducting costs will be allocated to SJS “Viva Blue House” revitalization project to support cultural preservation and community engagement.
 
Being one of the long term supporting partners to SJS, CHK supported the event by providing free but professional instant photo shoot & print service for all the participated teams. A total of 274 photos has been printed for their unforgettable memory.
 
About St. James’ Settlement
Founded by the Rt. Rev. Bishop R. O. Hall of the Anglican Church in 1949, the St. James’ Settlement serves over 2,9000,000 needy people every year including children, youths, adults, the elderly, and people with disabilities. There are altogether 58 service points in various districts of Hong Kong with a broad spectrum ranging from community support to residential care.
 
About Viva Blue House
In 2009, Development Bureau launched the “Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme” and Blue House Cluster (Blue House, Yellow House & Orange House) was one of the project in batch II. In 2010, together with other community cultural concern groups, SJS was selected as the operator of the project and project was named “Viva Blue House”. It is the first project that embraces the mission on “retention of both residents and the building”. It is hoped to constantly evolving story on local cultural, as a demonstrative research and educational tool and be a beacon for sustainable communities to come.
 

Over 100 participated teams got all their power and were ready to start their competition!

Canon Instant Photo Shoot & Print Service was offered to all the participated teams and drawn a perfect end for the entire competition.

The team that won the “Best Dressed Team Award”.
