Co-organized by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China Limited (CAHK), the “2015/2016 UCI Track Cycling World Cup - Hong Kong” was successfully held at Hong Kong Velodrome from 16 – 17 January 2016. The competition was the highest-ranked international track cycling competition ever staged in Hong Kong and was the first time to host a round of UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Hong Kong. More than 300 world-class riders from over 39 countries and regions gathered together not only to contend for different individual titles, but also to strive for points for getting in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Canon Hongkong (CHK) is proud to be the “Official Imaging Sponsor” of this top class event in order to show our continuous support to local cycling sports and development after being the official sponsor of Hong Kong Cycling Team in 2014. A series of office printing equipment and consumables has been supported to facilitate the race office operation before and during the competition period.
2015/2016 UCI Track Cycling World Cup - Hong Kong has also been recognized as a “M” mark event by Major Sports Events Committee and awarded the 100th “M” mark since the launching of the "M" Mark System. It is the 2nd “M” mark event for CHK to support following the Hong Kong Tennis Open.
The competition has been divided into different categories to compete including Keirin, Sprint, Time Trial, Pursuit, Scratch Race, Point’s Race & Omnium. Hong Kong Cycling Team member, Ms. Sarah Lee Wai Sze, won 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in Women’s Sprint & Women’s Keirin category respectively, Ms. Yang Qianyu got 1 bronze in Women’s Scratch category, congratulations to both!
About Hong Kong Velodrome Located in Tseung Kwan O with the construction cost of HK$113 million, the Hong Kong Velodrome (HKV), the first indoor cycling facility meeting international standards for training and competition, was opened for public usage since April 2014. It has a 250 meters long, circuit shape and wooden made indoor cycling track with a 3,000 spectator stand. The multi-purpose arena at the infield can be used for other sports activities like basketball, volleyball & badminton. There is also a fitness room, a table tennis room, a dance room & a children’s playroom for public renting.
HKV serves as a fixed and quality training base for Hong Kong Cycling Team for training more outstanding local cyclists for international competition so as to increase the level of indoor track cycling in Hong Kong. The facility also represents that a large-scale and high level of cycling competition could be hosted in Hong Kong for coming future. |
