Canon Hongkong Participated in WGO Green Family Day

Canon Hongkong Participated in WGO Green Family Day

Canon Hongkong (CHK) has been encouraging staffs to participate in different environmental activities, in order to enjoy the nature as well as to stay healthy. On 7th May, 21 CHK staffs with their family members and friends joined the Green Family Day organized by World Green Organization (WGO). They visited AuLaw Organic Farm in Kam Tin, Yuen Long, in where they partook knowledge on organic farming, tried their hands at the fields and enjoyed an organic lunch together with low carbon living tips.

Throughout the programme, the person-in-charge of the organic farm introduced to the participants the features of organic farming, in which every single element like fertilizer applied, water for irrigation, seed used and ways of insect control could greatly affect the quality of crops and the harvest. The visit was then followed by the farming trial – despite the hot weather, participants were excited to experience farming by plowing the field, loosening the soil and removing the weed.

Upon the end of the programme, participants enjoyed an organic lunch, in which dishes cooked with freshly harvested organic vegetables have been served. The lunch drew the activity to a fruitful end as participants were indeed impressed by the taste of freshness – some of them even went home with bags of organic vegetables, which were purchased at the farm!

21 CHK staffs with their family members and friends were excited to join the Green Family Day.

Person-in-charge of the organic farm led the farm tour and shared knowledge on organic farming and plants.

Participants had a taste on the growing corn, which was just stripped off from the farm!

Barely a half-an-hour-long farming experience with hoes and sickles were already enough for participants to well understand how hard the farmer’s work was!

Everyone enjoyed the delicious organic lunch. Some participants even bought organic vegetables, such as cherry tomatoes, Chinese long beans, beetroots, papaya and Chinese amaranth, at the farm.
