2016-JUL-08

Canon Hongkong Organized Canon Blood Donation Day to Save More Lives

In response to the appeal of Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC), Canon Hongkong Company Limited (CHK) has been coordinating with HKRC Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) to organize “Canon Blood Donation Day” for the second time in 2016. On 8th July, 57 CHK staff took the initiative to join the Blood Donation Day and 42 of them successfully passed the health scanning and haemoglobin test for blood donation. In total, 87 bags of blood have been collected and donated through Canon Blood Donation Day this year.

In order to learn more about BTS’s services, 24 CHK blood donors visited the HKRC Blood Transfusion Centre with their relatives and friends on 4th June. They visited the central sections of the BTS headquarters, which is rarely open to the general public. The tour allows them to learn more about blood transfusion, bone marrow donation and cord blood bank through the introduction of numerous advanced equipments and international standard testing procedures and laboratories.

About the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service
Founded in 1952, the Hong Kong Red Cross BTS is the only public institution providing blood to all hospitals, public and private in Hong Kong. It has been managed by the Hospital Authority since December 1991. Over 60 years of public education though different channels, the awareness and importance of blood donation in the society has been strengthened. BTS will continue to recruit more voluntary blood donors to ensure an adequate and safe blood supply in Hong Kong.
