Canon introduces new flagship PowerShot G1 X
A breakthrough combined with top image quality, optical zoom and professional control
With a large 1.5” type CMOS image sensor and DIGIC 5 digital image processor

Canon unveils the new flagship PowerShot G1 X Digital Compact Camera, taking prosumer compact cameras to the next level! Created with a large 1.5" type CMOS image sensor and the new-generation DIGIC 5 digital image processor, the new camera greatly improves noise-reduction with its exceptional light sensitivity and powerful processing speed. Also equipped with 4x optical zoom, expanded accessorizing capacity and manual controls, the PowerShot G1 X provides photographers with a perfect camera that delivers superior image quality and shooting flexibility.

EnhancedHS SYSTEM- High-sensitivity 1.5" type CMOS image sensor and Ultra-fast DIGIC 5 digital image processor

Large 1.5" type High-sensitivity CMOS image sensor
Featured with Canon's large 1.5" (18.7mm x 14mm) type 14.3-megapixel CMOS image sensor, its surface area is larger than that of the image sensors being used in 4/3" system cameras, and is even 6.3 times larger than the 1/1.7" type sensors often used within other prosumer digital compact cameras. This can significantly increase light-gathering capacity, improve the signal-to-noise ratio and allow users to create a beautiful bokeh effortlessly. Along with its increased surface size, the total area of the lens is only 1.4 times larger, plus 4x optical zoom, the new camera achieves a perfect balance between compactness and image quality, it can also make framing more flexible. Plus, the PowerShot G1 X can shoot in uncompressed 14-bit RAW format that offers rich color gradation, and images can be post-processed with greater variability.

Comparing different image sensor sizes

New-generation DIGIC 5 digital image processor
It also features a brand new DIGIC 5 digital image processor which is 6x times faster than its predecessor in noise reduction, allowing sharp images to be captured under high-sensitivity settings. It offers a standard shooting range of ISO 100-12800. The overall performance of DIGIC 5 is strengthened up to 50% with ultra-fast algorithm power and responsiveness, this can enable smooth operation with crisp and clear images. A new Multi-Area Auto White Balance function can provide a partial correction according to different light sources like mercury-vapor lamps or flash, improving unnatural-looking foreground subjects and background commonly occurred in flash-lit images.

Extensive control – 3-inch 922k dot Vari-angle LCD and multiple control dials
Designed with ergonomics in mind, the PowerShot G1 X offers multiple control dials for quick and intuitive access to a range of customizable settings: aperture value, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, manual focus, white balance, aspect ratio, dynamic range correction and shadow correction, delivering expert control and flexibility. A 3-inch 922k dot Vari-angle PureColor II VA LCD facilitates multi-angle shooting. The new camera also includes a Neutral Density (ND) Filter which allows creative use of slower shutter speeds. A built-in Electronic Level is shown on the LCD to indicate the horizontal accuracy and the leveled composition.

Enhanced creative potential through expanded accessories
The PowerShot G1 X is compatible with a range of EOS System accessories, accommodating different shooting subjects and photographic needs. Built with a Hot-shoe, the new camera supports a series of external EOS Speedlites and studio flash system for versatile lighting effects. An optional lens Filter Adapter, FA-DC58C, enables photographers to use a range of 58mm filters, such as the PL-C Polarizing Filter that can achieve more saturated blue skies and greenery and reduce reflections.

Double Stabilization - Intelligent IS and Hybrid IS
The PowerShot G1 X features the new Intelligent IS that can automatically detect the most appropriate shooting modes for both photo images and full HD movies, so high quality images can be achieved no matter you are shooting with macro shots, panning, a tripod, or if you are making short movies with tele-zooming or at wide angle. What is more, Hybrid IS is also included with an accelerometer to complement gyroscopic sensors, this can compensate both shift-based and angle-based camera shake to ensure crisp and clear macro and close-up images.

Diverse shooting modes and creative filters for endless possibilities
The new PowerShot G1 X offers aperture priority (Av), Shutter priority (Tv) and full manual (M) exposure shooting modes. With a High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode, the new camera blends 3 exposures with pixel-level analysis and fine-tunings, this can produce a final HDR image with rich detail in shadows and highlights. Also, the High-Speed Burst mode1 enables shooting of up to 4.5 frames per second at 14.3 megapixel, best for shooting sporting events or spectacular action.

The new camera is also equipped with multiple filters: Miniature Effect emphasizes the subject and blurs the surrounding area, creating a miniature-scale effect similar to Tilt-Shift lens. It also supports movie shooting with time lapse effect to produce fast motion effects. Fish-eye Effect mimics the distortion of a fisheye lens which expands the central area of an image for a convex effect. Toy Camera Effect creates a special effect similar to a pinhole camera. Nostalgic Mode reproduces old-style texture easily.

1 Maximum of 6 images per continuous burst

Full HD Stereo Movie Shooting with Dynamic IS and Powered IS
The PowerShot G1 X supports full HD movie shooting in 1920 x 1080 resolution with Dynamic IS, this can reduce shakings caused by handheld shooting at wide angle; together with Powered IS, motion compensation at the tele-end can be enhanced. Supported by Scene Detection technology, the new camera can intelligently select the optimal settings for up to 21 pre-set scene modes in movie shooting. PowerShot G1 X also supports Movie Digest and iFrame HD movie modes for easy viewing and editing.

All-around intelligent functions for novel experiences
The PowerShot G1 X adopts advanced Scene Detection technology to choose the best possible camera settings from the 32 pre-settings for every scene according to its shooting distance, lighting condition, color temperature and subject movement etc. By detecting a subject's focus, exposure, white balance, ISO speed and dynamic range, users can capture perfect images in different situations across a range of lighting conditions such as bright, backlit or blue skies. When portrait with strong facial shadow is detected, flash and exposure can be calculated automatically by Face Detection Technology, ensuring to capture the natural skin tone.

The new camera also comes with different Smart Shutter modes including Wink, Smile and Face Self-Timers. Facial expressions can be detected as a signal for shutter release. By avoiding the problems of hand shaking or lack of preparation, portraits with the most natural expressions can be captured.

To answer the needs of professional photographers, the PowerShot G1 X provides the new Copyright Information setting. Users can enter “copyright details” and “author's name” etc directly into the camera, and it will be appended to each image as Exif information, making photo management an easier task.
