| Canon EOS System celebrates 25th Anniversary | 
|
Canon announces today the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Canon's EOS System, which includes the EOS series of single-lens reflex (SLR) cameras and a diverse range of accessories for the system beginning with the company's rich lineup of interchangeable EF Lenses. Canon's EOS System made its debut in March 1987 with the launch of the EOS 650 SLR camera and three interchangeable EF Lenses, including the EF 35-70mm f/3.5-4.5. This month, the system commemorates its long and splendid history with the celebration of its 25th anniversary. Standing for “Electro Optical System" while carrying the name of the Greek goddess of the dawn, the EOS series saw first light in 1987 as the world's first fully electronic mount system, representing a new generation of AF SLR camera. During the film-camera era, EOS SLR cameras garnered high acclaim from a wide range of users for their innovative technologies and designs focused on Canon's key concepts of high speed and ease-of-use. Thereafter, the company launched the top-of-the-line professional model EOS-1 in 1989 and, with the introduction of the compact, lightweight EOS 500 in 1993, succeeded in expanding its user base. Being a responsible manufacturer, Canon leads to be the first in global to set up its own Canon Toner Cartridge Recycle Factory located in Japan, China, U.S. and France since 1990 to make sure all collected toner cartridges are utilize as reused parts in new products. Up to 2010, Canon has reduced the use of new resources by 168,000 tons and CO² emissions by 402,000 tons. Likewise, CHK from 2009 has established Ink Cartridge Collection boxes placed in voluntary schools, shopping malls, commercial centers and commercial buildings to collect used cartridges for recycling purpose.
