Canon Hongkong is proud to announce the winning of six best product awards from the prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) – Europe’s leading photo and imaging press association. Continuing the success from previous years, Canon has achieved excellence across a broad range of product groups.

The EOS-1D X was heralded as the ‘Best DSLR Professional’ across Europe for 2012. The EOS 5D Mark III was named “Best Video DSLR”, while the EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens was recognized as the ‘Best Professional DSLR Lens’. The PowerShot G1 X received the ‘Best Expert Compact Camera” award, together with the Cinema EOS C300 being awarded the ‘Best Professional Video Camera’ and the PIXMA MG8250 named as the ‘Best Multifunction Photo Printer’. These accolades are real testaments to Canon’s expertise in imaging technology and the company’s commitment in expanding its already diverse product portfolio to offer a professional and all-round imaging experience to its customers.

Best DSLR Professional in Europe 2012: EOS-1D X
Combining the creative advantages of a 18.1-megapixel full frame CMOS sensor with high speed, high sensitivity technology powered by a dual DIGIC 5+ image processor, the EOS-1D X was praised by the TIPA judges as the perfect camera ‘to serve the needs of pro news, sports and wildlife photographers’. The judges were impressed with its shooting speed of up to 14 frames per second in Super High Speed Mode, a wide standard ISO range from 100-51,200 and is expandable to ISO 50 and 204,800, Full HD video recording capability and a built-in Ethernet. Its newly engineered 61-point AF-system with 41 cross type sensors was considered as ‘the fastest and most accurate ever, enabling the camera to detect and track fast moving subjects even under lowlight conditions.’

Best Video DSLR in Europe 2012: EOS 5D Mark III
Being a DSLR camera that unifies the professional worlds of digital still and video, the EOS 5D Mark III has received high acclaim from the judges as it ‘has changed the landscape of digital photography’. It is the ‘one camera system’ which provides users with the flexibility ‘to shoot stills or video (or both) on the spot’. Contributing to superior shooting performance, its newly designed 61-point AF and 63-zone metering system, and a new 22.3-megapixel full frame sensor with an incredibly high ISO sensitivity were highly recognized. Additional movie functions including manual exposure control and supporting both IPB (Inter-frame) and ALL-I (Intra-frame) video compressions for selection have allowed more flexibility in shooting and post-editing workflow.

Best Professional DSLR Lens in Europe 2012: EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM
Being the world’s first fisheye zoom lens that offers both Circular and Diagonal fisheye effects^*, the EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye USM lens ‘allows photographers to shoot spectacular images with extreme viewing angles’. Its 180-degree field of view offers exceptional creative capture capabilities. The judges were most impressed with the lens’ superior optical performance such as the patented Sub Wavelength Structure Coating (SWC) that reduces ghosting effects and flare, and the additional Fluorine coating that aids in easy cleaning of the large front element to ensure image clarity, making it a Canon premium L-series lens with ‘exceptional optical design, quality and durability’.

Best Expert Compact Camera in Europe 2012: PowerShot G1 X
Built with a large 1.5” type High Sensitivity CMOS image sensor, a size similar to the APS-C sensors used in EOS DSLR models, and a new generation DIGIC 5 digital image processor, the PowerShot G1 X was praised and selected by the judges as it offers ‘DSLR-like image quality, but in a compact camera style body with an excellent fixed zoom lens’. With the camera’s improved noise reduction performance realized by an exceptional light sensitivity and powerful processing speed, superior image quality is delivered even when working in low light.

Best Professional Video Camera in Europe 2012: Cinema EOS C300
The revolutionary EOS C300^# with ‘landmark video camera technology’, as recognised by the judges, is the result by combining the ‘expertise from diverse fields including sensors, Digital Image Processor and optics’. It opens up a new era of professional digital video recording by combining exceptional imaging performance, lens compatibility and excellent mobility, while offering full compatibility with the film making industry. Designed with a ultra compact body and accompanied by a new range of EF Cinema Lenses, the EOS C300 incorporates a newly developed Super 35mm 8.29-megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC DV III Digital Image Processor, MPEG-2 4:2:2 color sampling and a 50Mbps recording bit rate for accurate color reproduction and unrivalled imaging quality.

Best Multifunction Photo Printer in Europe 2012: PIXMA MG8250^
The PIXMA MG8250^ Smart Home all-in-one photo printer impressed the judges with ‘a intelligent Touch System design and enhanced connectivity, which includes access to the new PIXMA Cloud Print technology and wireless printing from mobile devices’, unveiling a new era of remote printing with unprecedented convenience. Incorporating a print head that produces 1pl ink droplet and delivers up to 9600dpi print resolution, a 6-color individual ink tank system that produces a grain free, smooth colour 10x15 cm photo in just 20 seconds, the printer which ‘offers photolab-quality printing at impressive speed’ has received high acclaim from the panels. Added to the package is a CCD scanner with 35mm film scanning at 4800 x 9600 dpi, making the printer ‘a very desirable tool for every photo enthusiast’.
