"From Imagination to Reality" Tsai King Yan Photo Exhibition Expanding the Boundary of Image Expression with Experimental Shooting |
A good image is more than merely aesthetics. The passion of photographers in pursuing more creative imaging expression is one of the keys that takes photography to a new level. Continuing its wholehearted effort in promoting the culture of photography, Canon proudly presents "From Imagination to Reality" photo exhibition by Mr. Tsai King Yan, opening today at Canon Pro Solution Hub, which showcases various bold and experimental shootings done by Tsai as testaments to the unlimited possibilities in photography. Commercial pieces making use of the results and experience gained from experimental shootings are also exhibited. Tsai’s images are unique and extraordinary in a sense that incorporates brand new concepts and innovative shooting skills. Tsai is a well-known and highly respectable Hong Kong commercial photographer. He was graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tokyo Institute of Photo in 1970s, and has been running his own studio since he was back to Hong Kong. He has worked in the commercial photography field for more than 30 years, providing quality service to many international advertising agencies and clients in Hong Kong. Despite his professional status, Tsai is keen to explore new ways to shoot in order to create more imaging possibilities. He was among the first group of local photographers to incorporate digital photography, and constantly strives to upgrade his professional technique and equipment to meet higher demands, such as providing 3D-shooting service. Tsai is also one of the founding members of "Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographer" (HKIPP) and constantly publishes articles in photography journals. In addition to his profound knowledge and theory, he devoted himself to become one of the mentors in supporting those fresh members to explore their own style. This exhibition comprises two sections, showcasing Tsai's experimental pieces for idea realization and commercial works that fulfill clients' requirements. Visitors can take this chance to learn more about the concept and idea behind each exhibit and the shooting skills used. The first section focusing on experimental shooting is eye-opening. Tsai made a breakthrough to the view limit of using an ultra-wide angle lens by achieving a wide interior shot with an angle of view close to 180° but in normal perspective. He also captured innovative 3D aerial shots using two EOS-1Ds Mark III cameras. Tsai turns every creative idea in his mind to marvelous images by realizing his unrestrained ideas through groundbreaking shooting methods. The second section showcases Tsai's commercial works with the application of experimental results. Realizing the greater flexibility in post production in digital photography, Tsai was a pioneer to use EOS-1Ds digital SLR camera in various commercial shootings for international brands, opening up more image expression in commercial photography. Facing growing demands for extraordinary commercial images, Tsai satisfies his clients' requirements with innovative shooting concept, skillful application of Canon's professional imaging products and by leveraging on his well-gained experience from experimental works. With an aim to promote photography culture to the general public, Canon joins hands with various leading photography experts to organize exhibitions since 2009 and supports by sponsoring venue and photo printing service. All exhibited photos are printed by Canon 12-color large format printer. This exhibition opens today at Canon Pro Solution Hub with free admission to the public.
