In general the filename of EOS digital camera starts with "IMG_" and followed by 4 digits. After shooting with multiple cameras, there is a chance that files are overwritten by other cameras’ file by accident during file copy. Considering that professional photographers need to work with multiple cameras in assignments, Canon has assigned unique filename to EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C or EOS 5D Mark III by default when shipped. This facilitates the photographers to manage the files easily in the midst of tight schedules.

In EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III or EOS 7D*, photographers can also customize the filenames by themselves. For assignment involving multiple cameras from multi-angles, photographers can tell the photo angle at a glance with the filenames.

Customized Filename

To use customized filename, select "Filename" under "Setup" page. You can select Preset Code, User Setting 1 or User Setting 2 as the beginning of filename. EOS-1D X/EOS-1D C/EOS 5D Mark III EOS 7D

Preset Code

Preset code is a unique filename assigned to each EOS-1D X, EOS1D C or EOS 5D Mark III when shipped, e.g.,BE3B1234.CR2.(For EOS 7D, the default name is “IMG_”)

User Setting 1

Choose “User Setting1” to customize the filename, you can set the first 4 characters of the filename. When shooting with multiple cameras, you can customize the filename to start with CAMA, CAMB etc. for easy identification after copying files to computer.

Input 4 alphabets or numbers as the beginning of the filename.

User Setting 2

Choose “User Setting2” to customize the first 3 characters of the filename. The 4th character will be appended automatically to indicate the image size. When saving RAW or JPEG of different sizes to 2 memory cards#, this setting allows you to tell the image size easily with the filename after copying to computer.

Input 3 alphabets or numbers as the beginning of the filename.
