GPS Receiver GP-E1 and GP-E2 are dedicated GPS accessories to EOS digital camera*, they can geotag images and videos# automatically. For users who like outdoor activities and travelling, memory becomes more vivid when reviewing images and videos with location information.
The GPS receivers use the common "L1" GPS band (1575.42 MHz) and with a precision within 30m. To acquire GPS signals, bring the camera outdoors where the sky is unobstructed and keep the top of camera aiming upwards.

GPS Receiver GP-E2: Mount to camera hotshoe (Not applicable to EOS 7D) |

GPS Receiver GP-E2: Connect to camera via USB interface cable. (When using with Speedlite) |
Once activated, the GPS Receiver takes around 30-60 seconds to acquire signals from GPS satellites. Once the <GPS> icon on camera’s LCD panel or LCD monitor is constantly displayed, the following geotag information will be add to images and videos* taken automatically:
- Longitude and latitude
- Altitude
- UTC (Coordinated Universal Time)
- Satellite reception conditions
Enabling GPS Receiver

2. When
<GPS>
indicator on GP-E2 is blinking fast, signal is not yet acquired. When
<GPS>
indicator blinks every 3 seconds or 6 seconds, signal is acquired.

When <3D> is displayed in Satellite reception, elevation can be recorded. However, elevation cannot be recorded when <2D> is displayed
 GPS Position update timing
Shorter Position update timing (positioning intervals) yield more accurate location information for your images. However, this also consumes more battery power.
 Comparing to the internal GPS of EOS 6D, GPS Receiver GP-E2 has superior reception sensitivity and with built-in digital compass. |
