The video specifications of EOS 7D Mark II have both been improved substantially and making the camera more professional and suitable for film production. EOS Movie will enter a new page with the launch of EOS 7D Mark II.

Supports 50p/59.94p at Full HD Quality1

The EOS 7D Mark II now supports a high frame rate of 50p (PAL) or 59.94p (NTSC) when recording at Full HD quality. This results in smoother Full HD movies even if a fast moving subject is being shot. It also facilitates the making of slow-motion movie.

The Cinematic 24.00p

First in EOS, it now supports the 24.00p which is the same frame rate as cinema film cameras. This enables the integration of conventional film footage in movie-editing workflow.

Newly supports MP4 file format and a new IPB (light) movie compression for MP4 format

In addition to MOV, the MP4 file format is added. MP4 offers superb compatibility with wide-range of multimedia player such as smartphones and tablets. Also, a new heavy compression method called ‘MP4 IPB (light)’ is added to create small movie files, the file size can be as small as 87MB per minute at Full HD.

Canon's "Dual Pixel CMOS AF"

Integrates Canon's Unique "Dual Pixel CMOS AF" to enable fast and accurate AF in Live View shooting even in low light condition; When shooting movie, exceptional tracking performance is brought by the smooth and quiet Movie Servo AF.

New concept: Custom Movie Servo AF

EOS 7D Mark II is the first EOS to features new "Custom Movie Servo AF". Users can customize both "Movie Servo AF Speed" and "Movie Servo AF Track Sensitivity" that allow customizing AF characteristics during video shooting2.

Shutter Button customization during movie shooting

First in EOS, apart from the button on the back, it is now possible to customize the shutter button to have different functions during movie shooting. It also enables off-camera START/STOP recording when using with remote controller after customization.

If the [Third option] or the [Fourth option] is set, besides pressing the <START/STOP> button, you can start/stop the movie shooting by pressing the shutter button completely or by using Remote Switch RS-80N3 or Timer Remote Controller TC-80N3 (both sold separately). However, with the [Third option] or the [Fourth option] is set, still photo shooting is disabled.

Movie Silent Control

By Movie Silent Control, it is possible to change the settings of aperture, shutter speed, ISO speed, sound-recording level and etc without making too much noise while shooting a movie.

Uncompressed Full HD HDMI output

Supports uncompressed Full HD HDMI Output for instant transfer of uncompressed full HD video signal and audio signal to an external recorder or external monitor during shooting. The default setting is [No mirroring].

1 If Full HD 59.94p or Full HD 50.00p is set, Movie Servo AF will not function and Contrast-detection AF will be applied (focusing may take longer than usual). Still photos cannot be taken.
2 When [FlexiZone AF –Single Point] is set and a compatible lens is used, if other AF method or a non-compatible lens is used, the default speed and sensitivity will be applied. Compatible lenses include all ring-type USM lens marketed in 2009 or later and all STM lenses.
