The Chinese Foundation Secondary School (CFSS) has strived to foster leadership, critical thinking, creativity and confidence of its students. Over the past 10 years, CFSS has been nurturing loyal and dedicated citizens to the community. Being a direct subsidy school, CFSS is autonomous, responsive and dynamic, using English as the medium of instruction and providing choice and diversity to promote educational excellence. Years before the implementation of New Senior Secondary Curriculum, CFSS has been actively preparing to cater for education reform needs, with a mission to achieve whole person development through providing a more advanced and superior curriculum to students in Hong Kong.
Building a Future Campus with High Technology and Eco-Friendly Facilities
|
According to the School’s staff, it is quick and convenient that printing of a A0 size poster requires just less than 3 minutes. |
To cater for future development trends and building of a future campus, CFSS has made big investment in purchasing high-tech and eco-friendly facilities which include wind turbine power system, solar photovoltaic system and LED light tube. Information technology facilities are also equipped, such as setting up of campus TV station, multi-media learning centre and computer rooms. In addition, broadband network, projector and High Definition TV with video-on-demand facilities are installed in every classroom and special room. To effectively encourage knowledge transfer, CFSS adopts a soft teaching approach by encouraging students’ participation in exhibition works, such as the School Open Day, Public Exhibition, Inter-School Exhibition or other co-organized projects with university. This allows students to better understand the production workflow of an exhibition. These in-school and inter-school exhibitions are effective platform for knowledge sharing and ideas exchange among students, parents and teachers. As it requires the use of many display media in these activities, CFSS has purchased Canon Large Format Printers for professional and easy production of posters, banners or signage in-school.
Structured Procurement Process for Purchasing New Equipment
CFSS has a structured procurement process for selecting new equipment. First, they will gather information of all available products, then by comparing on the pricing, functions and service to make the procurement decision. Take the procurement of large format printer as example, the School had made comparison on the pricing, functions, operation, technology, consumables such as ink price and consumption, choice of print media, sales and after-sales service before coming to the decision of choosing Canon Large Format Printer.
No More Printing Outsourcing
Convenient and Efficient Workflow with Quality Guaranteed
The new 3-3-4 academic structure emphasizes on the provision of diversified learning by recognizing the educational value of unconventional subjects. Under this new structure, general education, innovation learning, media and communications, as well as art education are under the spotlight. The new printing equipment in the School supports the teaching needs of these subjects. While the School had to outsource printing works in the past before the purchase of large format printers, now all printing works can be handled in-school for better control on time and quality. It allows more flexibility and convenience for changing the designs before printing, and makes work easier even under tight production timeline. Moreover, it was once inefficient to handle the cut and paste works manually when decorating the display panels in the old days. Now with layouts using computer software and poster printing capability, the work quality can be largely enhanced. Besides, as the poster material is long lasting, water- and scratch-resistant and allows easy storage, these posters can be re-used or lent to other organizations for exhibition purpose, which is a more eco-friendly approach and save much operating costs. For the School’s administrative works, the administration office can print notices, posters and signage during admission period. Posters printed on water-resistant stickers can be adhered to walls outside the School, facilitating public’s understanding of the School itself.

Students in favor of Professional Equipment
As large format printers are professional equipment broadly applied within the design industry, the School has planned to open courses on teaching the application of large format printers in the future. This can equip students with practical skills before their contribution to the society. Professional outputs of the students’ works are also encouraging and pleasing, and can provide students with positive learning experience that helps cultivate their interest in creativity and enhance confidence. Moreover, when having their topical studies, students can prepare presentations using large format printers for effective sharing of learning results with classmates and teachers. For teachers, they can print teaching materials that make knowledge transfer more effective.
