To help customers avoid purchasing counterfeit products, all Canon’s genuine lithium-ion battery packs are sold with a distinctive hologram label on the package (see below), which verifies their authenticity. When purchasing battery packs please refer to this information and check these security labels. (See the following images for the labels.) The security label is of a hologram that changes in pattern and color depending on the angle from which it is viewed and is difficult to imitate.

For NB-12L, security label will also stick on the battery body.
A battery communication error is displayed when a non-genuine Canon battery pack is used with a camera or a camcorder compatible with the NB-12L or LP-E4N or LP-E6. The message will prompt you to respond.
