Hong Kong (HK) Buyers Laboratory LLC, the world’s leading independent tester of document imaging products, announced today that Canon has won BLI’s 2014 “Line of the Year” award for “energy efficiency” for its A4 line of printers and MFPs, which consistently exhibited significantly lower than average energy consumption in BLI’s real-world environmental job stream test.

The award was based on the energy consumption of current Canon models tested to date, which range from personal printers to large workgroup MFPs.

Though some models may not be available in all regions, those that helped Canon win this award include the i-SENSYS LBP6670dn, imageCLASS LBP6680x, imageCLASS LBP6780x, i-SENSYS LBP6310dn, imageRUNNER ADVANCE 500i, imageCLASS MF8580Cdw and imageCLASS LBP7780Cx, as well as the imageCLASS D1350, imageRUNNER LBP3580, Color imageRUNNER LBP5280 and Color imageRUNNER LBP5480. Each device was compared against current tested competitive models in each manufacturer’s product line. Any devices that achieved an energy consumption rate more than 35% below the competitive average qualified for the “Line” award. The tested energy consumption of Canon’s eligible devices ranged from 35% to as much as 62% below their competitive averages.

“Canon has proven again and again that its A4-size document imaging products are the environmental choice for energy-conscious consumers,” said Pete Emory, BLI’s manager of laboratory testing. “In fact, 17 of its A4-size printers and MFPs have earned ‘Outstanding Achievement in Energy Efficiency’ awards from BLI since 2009, adding credence to this ‘Line’ accomplishment, which was awarded in the A4 category for the first time this year. It follows a similar award won by Canon last year.”

Canon was also recognised by BLI for the outstanding energy performance of its A3 line of MFPs during the Winter 2013 award season.

As mentioned, Canon continues to earn more recognition for the environmental performance of its products than any other vendor. Combined, for A3 and A4 devices tested to date, Canon has received 26 “Outstanding Achievement” awards for energy efficiency. And this latest award, which was given to Canon only after re-evaluating the energy consumption of its previously tested A4 devices against current competitive averages, demonstrates the continual energy savings available with Canon products.

“We are especially pleased to receive the 2014 BLI ‘Line of the Year’ award for energy efficiency. Above and beyond delivering cost savings to our valued customers, creating energy-efficient and intelligent printing solutions are important areas of focus at Canon for the benefits it brings to the world. This award is an encouragement to the team in our ongoing commitment to environmental friendliness and reducing carbon footprint and we will continue to strive towards providing innovative and effective print solutions,” said Kazuhiro Ozawa, Canon Singapore’s director of the Regional Business Imaging Solutions Division.

In addition to their lower than average energy consumption, many of the models listed offer additional features that help to reduce waste, such as toner-save and auto colour modes that reduce toner use, automatic duplexing functionality that helps reduce paper use, and job review and proof modes that allow users to check job settings prior to printing or copying. Most of these devices also enter sleep mode during an error condition. Some competitive models remain in an active state until the error is resolved, which wastes energy. For further details, BLI Environmental Test Reports are available on bliQ for all units listed.
