Canon introduces the new PowerShot G7 X Mark II Digital Compact Camera. Being the first model in the series that incorporates a new DIGIC 7 digital image processor, coupled with a large 1” type CMOS image sensor and f/1.8 large aperture lens, PowerShot G7 X Mark II realizes powerful low-light shooting capability with responsive and precise focusing as well as impressive shallow depth of field similar to EOS. With Full Manual Full HD Movie shooting, Wi-Fi Transfer and Shooting functions, the new camera facilitates easy shooting and sharing of stunning photos and movies. New shooting modes including Time-Lapse movie and Self-Portrait modes are added to open up more imaging possibilities. A high level of operational freedom is guaranteed, thanks to the newly designed lens control ring and 3” touch LCD monitor that supports 180° upwards flip and 45° downwards flip. Coupled with compact body design, it is the perfect everyday camera for users demanding exceptional quality.
New DIGIC 7 and 1” type high sensitivity CMOS image sensor for superior performance and image quality
PowerShot G7 X Mark II features HS SYSTEM which integrates the new DIGIC 7 digital image processor and large 1” type 20.1-megapixel high sensitivity CMOS image sensor, resulting in a significant increase in light-gathering capability and exceptional image quality with expanded dynamic range, rich gradations and beautiful background defocus. The new DIGIC 7 realizes faster and more responsive focusing performance. Subjects in low saturation or similar colors to the background can be detected with high precision even in low-light environment, while improved AF tracking performance ensures accurate tracking of different types of subjects spanning from people, animals to objects. Benefited from the ultra-fast data processing speed of DIGIC 7, excellent image quality with high levels of detail and sharpness can be achieved. Improved high ISO shooting up to ISO 12800 facilitates easy shooting of night scenes or indoors. Edge noise is further suppressed when shooting with high ISO speeds, resulting in sharper and more delicate images. When shooting high-contrast scenes such as a back-lit subject, high quality result is ensured by achieving natural and optimal correction on the subject’s exposure and contrast level.
In addition, the camera supports uncompressed RAW format shooting to retain rich color gradation for post-editing. New to the digital compact camera series, an in-camera RAW to JPEG conversion function enables users to change color tone, convert multiple images and compare converted images with the originals simply on the monitor, facilitating instant image sharing while traveling. Continuous shooting at up to 8 fps1 in RAW is also supported, allowing users to capture decisive moment in full resolution
f/1.8 large aperture 24mm ultra wide-angle 4.2x optical zoom lens for expanded shooting flexibility
PowerShot G7 X Mark II features a large aperture lens which supports f/1.8 at the wide end and retains f/2.8 at the tele-end, allowing more light to reach the sensor for enhanced low-light shooting performance. The incorporation of the f/1.8 large aperture with 9-blade circular aperture diaphragm not only produces shallow depth of field to make subjects stand out by blurring the background, but also creates smooth and beautiful circular bokeh. The camera offers a 24mm ultra wide end, 4.2x optical zoom power and a minimum focusing distance of 5cm to allow flexible capture of distant, close-up and macro shots effortlessly for subjects spanning from landscape to portrait. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer (IS) that utilizes a new dual sensing design to provide shake compensation up to 4-stop shutter speed2 when shooting still images, making it easier to capture sharp and clear night shots with a handheld camera. It also offers a built-in Auto ND filter which is ideal for shooting with slow shutter speeds under bright environment for expanded creativity expression.
Newly designed 3” vari-angle touch LCD and Lens Control Ring for enhanced operational flexibility
PowerShot G7 X Mark II features a new 3-inch 1.04M-dot vari-angle capacitive type touch LCD that can be tilted up approximately 180° and down approximately 45° to facilitate easy self-portrait and shooting from high or low angle. Simply with a touch on the LCD monitor, users can select functions and adjust settings from the menu, or select the subject to focus and shoot. Multi touch capabilities such as "pinch-to-zoom" and "swiping" to scroll between images during image playback are also supported.
In addition to the easy-to-use dual-layer dial built on the top panel of the camera, it also incorporates a newly designed lens control ring that supports switching between step and continuous movement to meet different intentions and needs, helping users achieve the desired result quickly and with confidence. The step ring movement enables users to adjust shutter speed and aperture precisely for more accurate exposure setting, while the continuous ring movement is useful for fine adjustment of manual focus or seamless zooming during movie shooting. A peaking function is also included to facilitate manual focusing by indicating the area in focus with a colored box, ensuring faster and more precise focusing performance especially useful for macro and portrait shots.
Full Manual Full HD Movie Shooting for easy creation of stunning movies as desired
PowerShot G7 X Mark II supports Full Manual Full HD (1920 x 1080) 60p movie shooting function3 with stereo sound for full control of focus and exposure by changing shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed, facilitating easy creation of diverse effects with maximized flexibility. Perfect for recording fast-moving subjects, the 60p frame rate can ensure sharp and smooth dynamic movies. Made specially for movie shooting, the built-in Dynamic IS can reduce shakings caused by handheld shooting at wide angle, while the Powered IS is made to improve motion compensation at the tele-end.
Built-in Wi-Fi Wireless Transfer and Shooting functions for quick and easy image sharing
PowerShot G7 X Mark II features a built-in Wi-Fi Wireless Transfer function4 for easy and instant image sharing, printing and backup. A new Wi-Fi button simplifies wireless sharing process with a one-touch access to the Wi-Fi connection screen during shooting, browsing through menu or even when the power is off. With a Wi-Fi network, high quality images and movies captured can be uploaded directly to social networking sites such as Facebook or YouTube, sent wirelessly to smart phones, tablets or to other Canon digital cameras5 for easy sharing or backup. Images can also be printed directly through wireless connection with printers that support PictBridge (Wireless LAN) technology. In addition, the camera supports NFC (Near Field Communication) for easy and direct connection with Android devices6 and Connect Station CS100 simply by touching the NFC icon on the camera body, making image sharing easier than ever.
Wi-Fi Remote Shooting function7 via smart devices is also supported. This allows users to realize more creative images by mounting the camera on a tripod and controlling it remotely to shoot from a high or low angle flexibly. Upon connection, users can enjoy live view on the smart device, control various camera functions, flash operation, take and review photos. With the GPS function from smart devices8, accurate GPS data reception can be guaranteed after turning on the Camera Connect application on the smart device. Connect the camera to the smart device after shooting, GPS data including shooting location and time will be transferred and combined with the images, allowing easy image review or creation of travel blog.
Diverse shooting modes including Time-Lapse Movie and Self-Portrait for rich power of imaging expression
In addition to aperture priority (Av), shutter priority (Tv) and full manual (M) exposure shooting modes, PowerShot G7 X Mark II also features a range of shooting modes to expand the range of imaging expression. The new Self-Portrait mode with smooth skin and background defocus functions can deliver beautiful and stunning selfies right from the camera, while the new Panning mode can facilitate sharp capture of the foreground moving subject in a panning shot. The camera features 8 preset types of Picture Style that cater to different shooting scenes for users to choose from, including the new “Fine Detail” that emphasizes on fine edges and textures. Other shooting modes include Star Shooting functions for beautiful star nightscape photos and star time-lapse movies9, High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode that facilitates shooting in high-lighting-contrast situations and retains rich details in both highlights and shadowed areas, Handheld Night Scene mode for bright and sharp night-time images and enhanced Creative Filters.
A variety of functions that can enhance the movie shooting experience are also included. The new in-camera Time-Lapse Movie shooting mode enables users to create eye-catching fast motion movies of the changing cityscapes and share them instantly without the need for post-editing. The newly added Short Clip mode can facilitate easy creation of interesting movies with fast or slow motion, while Story Highlight mode helps generate album and story movie automatically so that users can review everyday moments in a more enjoyable way.
The camera also incorporates Scene Detection technology, which can automatically detect shooting distance, lighting condition, color temperature and moving subjects etc, and adjust to the best possible camera settings among 58 scenes to cater to different situations across a range of lighting conditions.
Compact body and new USB battery charging function for a higher level of user-friendliness in everyday shooting
PowerShot G7 X Mark II features a compact and lightweight body weighing only 319g (including battery and memory card), perfect for everyday or travel shooting to create high quality images. In addition to using the battery charger, the camera newly supports USB battery charging function, providing another convenient charging option by connecting to the computer.
