Supported Orbis “World Sight Day” Pin Campaign for 11 Consecutive Years –
Can you put a price on someone’s eyesight?

Canon Hongkong Company Limited (CHK) participated in the Orbis “World Sight Day” (WSD) Pin Campaign for 11th consecutive years. On 8 October, 322 CHK staff joined hands and raised over HK$32,700. With the great support from our staff, CHK was recognized the “Organizations with Fourth Most Participants” award.

This year, Orbis has posed the question “Can you put a price on someone’s eyesight?” as its theme in order to remind the public that their vision is priceless. 285 million people worldwide are impaired due to untreated eye conditions by desperately poor medical resources. It can impede the ability to gaining employment and lead into a life of poverty, as long as the surgeries could save their blind. The cataract surgery is needed HK$300 subsidy and for strabismus surgery is needed HK$600. Besides, Orbis will subsidize the people for eye screenings in rural areas and provide antibiotics as prevention works.

Orbis has been convinced that everyone has the right to visible. The ultimate aim of WSD is to remind the public how precious their vision is and also encourage them to make a donation to subsidize Orbis’s worldwide sight-saving mission. Since the campaign was launched in June, more than 310 companies and schools, together with 2,830 individuals, have raised over HK$4.8 million for Orbis, which is sufficient funding for 8,000 eye patients undergoing strabismus surgery.
