Despite advancing medical technologies, there is no substitute for blood and there is also has an expiry date from its storage; the supply of blood relies entirely on the goodwill of voluntary, non-remunerated blood donors. As one of the contributor to help to ensure sufficient and fresh blood supply for medical treatment, Canon Hongkong (CHK) has been coordinating with Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) to organizing its “Canon Blood Donation Day” for the 13th consecutive year.
In response to the appeal of Hong Kong Red Cross BTS, CHK has planned to organize blood donation day twice a year from 2016. On 3rd February, 67 CHK staff took the initiative to join the Blood Donation Day and 45 of them successfully passed the health scanning and haemoglobin test for blood donation. Mr. Hisahiro Minokawa, President & CEO of CHK, also visited the station to give valuable support to the CHK blood donors.
About the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service
Founded in 1952, the Hong Kong Red Cross BTS is the only public institution providing blood to all hospitals, public and private in Hong Kong. It has been managed by the Hospital Authority since December 1991. Over 60 years of public education though different channels, the awareness and importance of blood donation in the society has been strengthened. BTS will continue to recruit more voluntary blood donors to ensure an adequate and safe blood supply in Hong Kong. |
