Canon Cinema EOS System
EOS C500 & EOS-1D C 4K Movie Production Seminar
With renowned HK Film Directors and Cinematographers
Share 4K Filming Techniques and Upcoming Movie Trend

"Canon Cinema EOS System EOS C500 & EOS-1D C 4K Movie Production Seminar" was held by Canon today at MCL JP Causeway Bay, in an effort to equip movie and television industry practitioners with an in-depth understanding on the Canon Cinema EOS System. Local media and fellow professionals in the movie industry were invited to the Seminar, which featured renowned Hong Kong movie directors, producer and cinematographers, including Mr Mathew Tang, Mr Fruit Chan, Mr Jason Kwan and Mr Peter Pau (on speaking sequence). They shared their insight into and tips on filming movies with EOS C500 and EOS-1D C, as well as the much anticipated trend in filming in the 4K resolution.

Canon Hongkong Company Limited also announced a partnership project with Edko Film Limited today at the Seminar, which enables Canon to support local movie production by providing EOS C500, EOS-1D C and EF Cinema lens series. Moreover, in a move to help Hong Kong movie industry cope with the advent of the 4K resolution filming era, Mr Peter Pau has filmed with EOS-1D C for the first time, demonstrating the power of Canon Cinema EOS System to the audience. Guests and media were wowed by the exclusive viewing experience when 4K resolution footages were showed on the theatre screen at the cinema.

Movie Industry Proactively Prepares for the New 4K Filming Trend
Mr Mathew Tang, Head of Production of Edko Film Limited, joined the Seminar today and shared his views on the trend of 4K resoluition filming and its market outlook. Mr Tang believes that with the increasing expectations of the movie audience, 4K resoluition filming and movie showing is the global trend. Since 4K movies allow audience to view every single detail on the cinema screen, while delivering better quality on the colour of the film, he sees that 4K filming has heralded a new era in movie production. Edko Film Limited welcomes the launch of EOS C500 and EOS-1D C by Canon, pointing out that the Cinema EOS System products will not only provide better shooting equipment for the movie professionals and promote 4K movie shooting, but also breathe new life into the movie industry as a whole.

Famous Director Fruit Chan Takes the Lead to Film with EOS C500
Mr Fruit Chan, famous local movie director, has also shared his experience of filming with the EOS C500. He said that the EOS C500 is equipped with high sensitivity and effective low noise features for night shooting, delivering true-to-life details even when filming at low-light conditions. This helps to enhance the image quality of filming and facilitate post-production. He also said the compact body of the EOS C500 fits perfectly into narrow shooting space, enhancing mobility and flexibility to the filming crew.

4K Resolution Filming and Professional Lens Equipment Allows Diversity in the Movie Industry
Mr Jason Kwan, famous cinematographer for "Cold War", "The Last Tycoon" and "Love in a Puff"; has successfully created unique visual effects by equipped the EOS C500 with macro, tilt-shift and fisheye EF lenses. The EOS C500 also features slow motion recording function, rendering the shooting of slow motion movies in exquisite detail a handy task.

Mr Jason Kwan added that the EOS C500 allows night shooting with minimum light while still delivering sharp and true-to-life images, which helps create unique cinematic atmosphere. The "Canon Log Gamma" function is designed to facilitate post-production by capturing more colour details of the high-light and low-light parts of an image and by enhancing the dynamic range. Mr Kwan has used the EOS-1D C digital SLR camera for supplementary filming. Its compact design allows cinematographer to shoot from high angles, in car stunts and narrow space. Mr Kwan recommends both the EOS C500 and EOS-1D C, as they are not only the must-have equipment for high quality filming, but also provide the whole filmmaking crew with higher production flexibility and feasibility.

Renowned Cinematographer Peter Pau Films Trial with EOS-1D C
In addition to promoting local movie making with the EOS C500 and EOS-1D C models, Canon also invited Mr Peter Pau, the Best Cinematographer in the 73th Oscar in 2001 and the Best Cinematographer in the Hong Kong Film Awards for six times, to shoot a trial 4K video clip by using the
EOS-1D C digital SLR camera and share his views at the Seminar. He specifically tried the Canon Log Gamma function and was impressed by its enhanced dynamic range, which captures more colour details in high-light and in low-light, providing more convenience for post-production.

Mr Pau mentioned that he had been upset by the image quality when shooting movies with digital SLR cameras in the past. With the EOS-1D C that supports the 4K resolution filming with Motion-JPEG compression, it helps to maintain top image quality. The EOS-1D C also records 4K movies directly on the CF card, which offers a flexible solution for media storage. Mr. Pau particularly shot the trial in low-light situations, providing a proof that the EOS-1D C is able to capture images in stunning detail even in minimum light conditions.

Mr Pau believes the EOS-1D C digital SLR camera combines the image shooting and movie recording functions with excellent quality, reducing post-production costs and workflow. It will facilitate the operation of smaller production companies for filming independent or commercial movies. With more production companies equipped with 4K professional filming capability, more energy will be injected to the development of the movie industry.

Attending speakers and industry professionals hope the Cinema EOS System will help the crews to produce more dynamic and fabulous movies and TV programmes, while also popularizing the 4K filming for more entertaining movies.
